Good News!

I decided that you may need more time to meet with your support groups. Thus, you will need more time to  work on your one page support group paper. Here is the good news! You have an option. You can hand in your one page support group paper the day we conference OR you can hand it in with your research paper on DECEMBER 7th! DECEMBER 7th is TWO weeks from now!
The idea is that you may need to meet with your group after 12/2 therefore, giving you more time and material your paper.

As a college student who is at liberty to make academic decisions for yourself. You have an option!
Please give yourself enough time to write the support paper AND the research paper!

Do NOT FORGET that EXTRA CREDIT is waiting for you at the WRITING CENTER.
Make an appointment they are extremely busy! You may work on any of the following:

  • Getting Started-Brainstorming and Outlining
  • MLA & In Text Citation
  • Research

Assignment Due on Tuesday 11/23- "The Last Lecture"

Read: Don't Eat the Flan by Greg Critser  pg. 557

In your reflective journal answer the following:

Most health reports indicate that obesity continues to rise in America toward epidemic proportions. What do you think has gone wrong? What do you think needs to be done? What incentives are needed to encourage change?
Can food be a part of our identity? What about our perceptions of food? Are our perceptions cultural?

Read: Supersize Me: It's Time to Stop Blaming Fat People for Their Size
 by Alison Motluk pg. 562

What does Motluk mean when she writes, "Ironically, the U.S.'s obesogenic environment is one that societies through the ages have dreamed of: cheap food in abundance and barely a lick of hard work to be done" (paragraph 8) Explain the irony.
